Deli Meat

Deli meats are known to be contaminated with listeria and it can cause miscarriage. Listeria has the ability to cross the placenta and that can infect the baby. This can lead to infection or blood poisoning and also it can be life-threatening for your baby. During pregnancy, if you consider eating deli meats then make sure you reheat the meats until its steaming.

Fish That Contain Mercury

You should avoid eating fishes that contain high levels of mercury. Mercury consumed has been linked to developmental delays and brain damage during pregnancy. So try to avoid these types of fish include shark, swordfish, king mackerel, and tilefish.

Generally canned, chunk light tuna has a lower amount of mercury than other tuna but you should only eat them in moderation. This types of fish used in sushi so make sure to avoid them to eat due to the high level of mercury.

Smoked Seafood

Smoked or refrigerated seafood frequently labeled as lox, nova style, kippered or jerky should be avoided during pregnancy. Because these can be contaminated with listeria. You can often find this types of fish in the deli section of your close grocery shop. And canned or shelf-safe smoked foods are generally fine to eat as well.

Try to avoid some fish which comes from contaminated lakes or rivers. Those fish might be exposed to a high level of polychlorinated biphenyls. Include fishes such as bluefish, striped bass, salmon, pike, trout, and walleye are generally found in local lakes and streams.

Raw Shellfish

Raw Eggs

You should avoid raw eggs or any kind of foods that contain raw eggs during pregnancy. As it is potential exposure to salmonella. Some foods such as homemade Caesar dressings, mayonnaise, homemade ice cream or custards and hollandaise sauces might be made with raw eggs. So make sure to avoid those foods fast as they can lead salmonella.

You can eat foods which made with pasteurized eggs and they don’t increase the risk of salmonellae such as commercially manufactured ice cream, dressings, and eggnog.

Soft Cheeses

Soft cheeses that are imported may contain listeria. And this is harmful to you and your baby too. So avoid some soft cheeses like brie, camembert, Roquefort, feta, gorgonzola and Mexican style cheeses including Queso Blanco and Queso fresco, unless they clearly said that those are made with pasteurized milk. You can eat all soft non-imported cheeses because those are made with pasteurized milk and safe for pregnant as well.

Unpasteurized Milk

Always make sure that any milk you eat is pasteurized. Because unpasteurized milk may contain listeria that is harmful to pregnant.

Pate

You should also avoid refrigerated pate or meat meals as they contain the bacteria called listeria. You can eat canned pate or shelf-safe meat meals as well.

Caffeine

According to pregnancy, Maximum studies show that drinking caffeine in a decent range is permissible. And some other says that caffeine intake may be related to miscarriages. So avoid caffeine while the first trimester to prevent the likelihood of a miscarriage. As there is an obvious rule, you should limit caffeine to less than 200 mg per day during pregnancy.

Caffeine is a diuretic that means it can eliminate fluids from the body. This can lose water and calcium from your body. So make sure to drink water, juice, and milk instead of caffeine during your pregnancy.

Alcohol

This is most obvious that you have to avoid alcohol during your pregnancy period. Drinking alcohol can lead to fetal alcohol syndrome or development disorders. Also, alcohol can affect the healthy development of your baby. So it’s obvious to avoid drinking alcohol during pregnancy for your babies and your health as well.

Also, make sure to continue to avoid while breastfeeding your child. Because alcohol can reach the baby while breastfeeding.

Unwashed vegetables

Though vegetables are safe and an essential part of your balanced diet. So it’s necessary to wash them before cooking or eating. Unwashed vegetables lead toxoplasmosis and this is harmful to you and your baby too.
